Most car maintenance doesn't actually need your car to visit a building. An interim or full service, brake pads and discs, a battery, a diagnostic investigation, bulbs, wipers, filters — all of it can be done to exactly the same standard on your driveway by a properly equipped mobile mechanic. Our van carries trade-grade trolley jacks and axle stands, a full torque-wrench set, an oil extraction and waste-oil system, dealer-level diagnostics, and a parts stock topped up per job — because the work is booked against your registration, we arrive with the right oil approval, the right filter, and the right pads already on board.

The standard is the point. Mobile servicing has a cowboy reputation in places, so we run it exactly like the workshop: manufacturer schedules followed item by item, fasteners torqued to spec, old oil and parts taken away for compliant disposal, the same structured health check with written results, and your digital service record updated with the manufacturer just as a dealer would. The invoice is itemised identically to a workshop job. The only difference is where the van is parked while it happens — and that you've lost zero hours of your day to it.

Who uses it? Commuters who have the service done at the office between meetings. Parents who can't burn a morning in a waiting room. Households where the second car barely moves and has quietly gone two years without an oil change. Carers and home-workers who can't leave. And anyone whose car won't start at all — a mobile diagnostic visit is far cheaper than a recovery truck if the fix turns out to be a battery or a sensor.

How much does a mobile mechanic cost in West Molesey?

A mobile diagnostic visit costs from £65, an interim service from £139, a full service from £209 and brake pads from £139 per axle — fixed prices quoted from your registration before we set off, with no call-out charge anywhere in our core Molesey, Hampton, Walton, Esher and Thames Ditton area.

The mobile premium over our workshop prices is deliberately small — typically £15–20 a job — because the van's economics work by staying busy locally rather than charging travel by the hour. Set that against the half-day a workshop visit consumes of your own time (drive there, hand over, get home or wait, return, collect) and mobile servicing is usually the cheaper option in real terms for anyone whose time has a value.

What you don't pay for: waiting-room coffee, a courtesy-car deposit, or the taxi back from dropping the car off. The van arrives, the car never moves, and you carry on with your day.

A service at home or work, around the school run

The booking pattern tells the story: 8.30am driveway slots after the East Molesey school run, office-car-park services along the A3 corridor at Esher and Cobham booked between meetings, and Saturday-morning visits for the household second car that hasn't moved enough to deserve a garage trip.

Station car parks work too. With the operator's permission we've serviced commuters' cars at Hampton Court and Walton while their owners were in London — keys handed over at the platform end, invoice emailed before the return train. The car spends its parked hours being maintained instead of just depreciating.

Evening and Saturday slots carry no premium worth fearing: the price is fixed and published when you book. All we ask of the location is flat, legal parking with about a metre of working space around the car.

Mobile battery replacement — coded correctly

The most common emergency booking is the morning no-start, and it spikes with the first cold snap each November. A mobile battery visit costs from £110 supplied and fitted, and always starts with a charging-system test — because fitting a new battery that a failing alternator killed merely schedules the next no-start.

The step many mobile fitters skip is registration. Most modern cars with stop-start (BMW, VW Group, Mercedes and plenty of others) manage charging based on the battery's recorded age and type, so a new battery must be coded to the car or it will be chronically mis-charged and die years early. Our van carries the diagnostic kit to register the battery properly at your kerb — the same procedure a dealer runs, without the dealer's diary.

If the no-start turns out to be something else entirely — starter motor, immobiliser, fuel system — the £65 diagnostic visit has already found that out for less than a recovery truck would have cost.

Which areas does the mobile mechanic cover?

Core coverage is the KT8 heartland and everything touching it: West and East Molesey, Hampton Court, Thames Ditton (KT7), Esher (KT10), Walton-on-Thames (KT12), Hersham, Weybridge, Cobham, and across the river into Hampton and Teddington — all with no call-out charge. Wider Surrey is by arrangement with a small, quoted mileage charge.

Because we're based in West Molesey rather than running out from London like most established mobile operators, the postcodes other firms surcharge are our first miles of the day — which shows in both the price and how quickly we can fit you in.

For anything a driveway can't host — cambelts, clutches, MOTs, alignment — the workshop is the other half of the same company: we'll book the car in, move it there and back if needed, and one number covers both ends of the job.

  • The car won't start: a mobile diagnosis is cheaper than recovery if it's a battery or sensor

How it works

  1. 1. Book with your reg and postcode

We confirm the schedule items for your car, quote a fixed all-in price, and agree a slot — including evenings and Saturdays.

  2. 2. Parts loaded for your car

Correct-approval oil, OE-quality filters and any pre-agreed parts go on the van before we set off. No "we'll have to order it" on your driveway.

  3. 3. We arrive at home or work

A marked van, a qualified technician, dust sheets and wheel protection. All we need is reasonable access and somewhere flat to park the car.

  4. 4. Service to workshop standard

Manufacturer schedule followed, fasteners torqued to spec, structured health check with brake and tyre measurements written down.

  5. 5. Waste taken, records updated

Old oil, filters and parts removed for compliant disposal. Digital service record updated or book stamped on the spot.

  6. 6. Pay on completion

Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank transfer at the van. Itemised invoice emailed before we've left your road.

In Surrey

Local picture

Mobile mechanics are a genuine gap around here — the established operators work out of Twickenham and west London and treat Surrey as the edge of the map, with travel charges to match. We're the opposite: based in West Molesey, so Molesey, Hampton, Walton, Esher, Thames Ditton and Weybridge are our first miles, not our last. The local patterns suit mobile work perfectly — driveway-rich streets, office parks along the A3 corridor, and station car parks at Hampton Court, Esher and Walton full of commuters' cars doing nothing all day. Book the service for where the car already is, and the garage trip simply stops being a thing you do.

FAQ

Mobile Servicing — your questions, answered

Is a mobile service as good as a garage service?+
Ours is the same service — same manufacturer schedule, same oil approvals, same OE-quality filters, same torque specs, same written health check, same digital service record update. The van carries workshop-grade equipment. The honest limits are jobs that genuinely need a ramp or a press, and we tell you in advance when yours is one of them.
What can't a mobile mechanic do?+
Anything needing a four-post ramp, heavy press work, or specialist alignment equipment: clutches and gearboxes, cambelts on most engines, exhaust system replacement, wheel alignment, and MOTs (an MOT legally requires an approved test lane — no exceptions, whatever anyone advertises). For those, we book you into our own workshop and can move the car for you. One company, both halves.
Can mobile mechanics do cambelts?+
Generally no, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise casually. Cambelt replacement needs engine-support equipment, locking tools, and dry, controlled conditions — getting timing wrong by one tooth can destroy the engine. A handful of engines are realistic on a driveway; most aren't. We do cambelts at the workshop and will collect the car if needed.
Do you need anything from me — power, a garage?+
No power, no garage. We need the car parked somewhere flat and legal with about a metre of space around it, and the key. Driveways, office car parks (with permission), and quiet roadside are all fine. We bring lighting, dust sheets and our own disposal containers for the old oil.
What happens to the old oil and parts?+
They leave with us. Waste oil, filters and old parts are carried back in sealed containers and disposed of through registered waste-carrier channels — it's a legal requirement and it's on the invoice. Nothing goes in your wheelie bin or down a drain.
What if you find something serious during the service?+
You get a written report and the choice: minor extras we can usually do on the spot from van stock; bigger jobs are quoted and booked into the workshop, with collection if the car shouldn't be driven. We never start extra work without your explicit OK.
Will mobile servicing keep my manufacturer warranty valid?+
Yes — warranty rules care about what is done (manufacturer schedule, OE-quality parts, recorded properly), not where. We update the manufacturer's digital service record from the van, so your history is indistinguishable from a dealer visit at a third less cost.
Do you cover my area, and is there a call-out charge?+
We cover the KT and adjacent TW postcodes as core territory — Molesey, Hampton, Walton, Esher, Thames Ditton, Weybridge, Cobham, Kingston — and wider Surrey by arrangement. No call-out charge in the core area; a small mileage charge applies further out, always quoted up front.
